In 1909, Denmark's Alabama Exploration led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen was attempting to disprove the United States' insurance claim to North-Eastern Greenland, a case that was rooted in the suggestion that Greenland was broken up into two various pieces of land. Leaving their crew behind with the ship, Mikkelsen sleds throughout the ice with his unskilled staff member, Iver Iversen.
