The Korean War was raging when Sergeant Süleyman came across a half-frozen young girl who had no parents and no one to help her. Süleyman is moved by the desperate plight of this young girl and decides to risk his life in order to save her, smuggling her into his Army post and safely removing her from harm's way. Süleyman, unable to converse with her and unaware of her real name, gives her the name Ayla in honor of the moon that shone that terrible night when they first met. An instant and unbreakable friendship is formed between Ayla, a Turkish brigade in the grip of conflict, and the two of them become inseparable. Süleyman's brigade, however, is informed that they would be coming home at the end of the conflict. Süleyman can't bear to leave Ayla behind, so he does everything he can to bring her along. As time goes on, he is obliged to put Ayla up for adoption, but he refuses to give up hope of ever seeing her again. Is there any hope of the two of them reuniting?
