Madame de Villeneuve's narrative inspired Beauty and the Beast. In La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins, published anonymously in 1740, Belle falls in love with the Beast, a cursed monster seeking love and redemption. Children's version published in 1760. Jean Cocteau and Walt Disney adapted this version. Madame de Villeneuve's original version has never been modified until now.
