Rocky and Dan, two old comrades from the war, are patrol vehicle officers who work nights. Rocky has a more forgiving attitude than his friend Dan, who is a cynic and considers all lawbreakers to be scum. Both of them are drawn to the communicator Kate Mallory's voice over the radio, but when they meet her in person, they find that she is reluctant to get connected with guys who just might be able to stop a bullet. Because of a stroke of good luck, Rocky and Dan are able to cause major problems for the ruthless racketeer Ritchie Garris; yet, when Garris vows revenge, Kate's concerns may turn out to be well-founded.
