Richard Martin buys a new NDR-114 robot as a gift for someone else. The youngest of the family's children came up with the name Andrew for the product. The life and times of Andrew, a robot purchased as a domestic appliance and programmed to carry out mundane activities, are chronicled in the book and film "Bicentennial Man." As Andrew starts having feelings and engaging in creative thought, the Martin family quickly realizes that they do not have an ordinary robot on their hands.
