Nicholas, a little child from Lapland, lost his family in a tragedy hundreds of years ago. Orphaned boy is taken up by the village. Every year during Christmas, Nikolas moves. He makes toys for the children of the families as a thank you gift. Soon practically every house has gifts on Christmas morning from Nikolas' past adoptive families. A grouchy old carpenter, Iisakki, sends Nikolas to live and work at the age of thirteen, preventing him from crafting Christmas presents. But Nikolas gradually gains Iisakki's trust. As a pair, they begin to care for Nikolas' Christmas ritual. Once again, the Christmas gift tradition is threatened when Iisakki must leave Nikolas. Thanks to Nikolas, every Christmas since then has brought delight to youngsters.
