Darcy Baker is plagued by nightmares and sleepwalking, and she can't seem to get her mind off of her mother's animalistic torture when she was a youngster. When Darcy's therapist Ryan learns that her family's homestead, which has been the source of her nightmares, has been abandoned, he is eager to get her back there and bring the suppressed memories to the surface so that she may begin her healing journey. While Darcy has no desire to enter that hell, she does have a strong desire to win Ryan's affection and gives in to his request to return to her old home. When she and Ryan arrive at the dilapidated house, they realize that Darcy's fear of her mother is still alive. Even more disturbing, they learn about ten-year-old Sam, a savage mute who keeps his secrets dangerously close to his heart.
