Japanese naval forces had stormed across the Pacific by June 1942. A US carrier group is stationed off the coast of Midway, entrusted with springing a trap on the enemy in an attempt to reverse the direction of the war. A two-man crew of a US Navy dive bomber is forced to ditch in the sea during this key fight. Set adrift, the men turn to their friends for assistance, specifically the scrappy crew of a PBY Catalina dispatched to find for survivors. With days passing and the hope of rescue dwindling, the men are forced to confront their own death in the immense openness of the Pacific.
