Julie (Rosemary Dexter) is troubled by the disappearance of her psychiatrist lover Luca (Horst Frank), which she believes is the result of a disturbing dream in which she watched him being murdered by another man. In search of him, she drives to a coastal village where she meets Frank (Adolfo Celi), who informs her that Luca has really been there. Aside from Gerta's (Alida Valli) residence, Julie's research takes her to an artists' enclave where the mystery deepens among the eccentric folks that live there.
