Erich von Stroheim stars as a swindling count who lives large in Monte Carlo. He survives by extorting large sums of money from foolish married women who fall for his amorous charms. Von Stroheim's accomplices, false princesses Mae Busch and Maud George, share a vast home with the count and live in a condition of constant depravity. Their latest victim is the wife of an American businessman, played by an actress who insisted on being billed as Miss DuPont. Von Stroheim's attempts to seduce this particular dumb lady are foiled at every turn, and the count eventually receives his due.
