Although there aren't many things that are obviously similar between Siberia and Tokyo, the model industry is prospering in both of these far-flung locations. GIRL MODEL follows two protagonists who are involved in this industry: Ashley, a deeply conflicted model scout who searches the Siberian countryside looking for fresh faces to send to the Japanese market, and one of her discoveries, Nadya, a thirteen-year-old plucked from the Siberian countryside and dropped into the center of Tokyo with promises of a profitable career. After Ashley made her initial discovery of Nadya, the two rarely cross paths again; nonetheless, their histories are intimately linked to one another. Nadya's dreams stand in stark contrast to Ashley's more pessimistic attitude regarding the corrupting influence of the industry as Nadya's optimism regarding the possibility of rescuing her family from their financial woes develops.
