When one of Atti's cunning ideas falls foul of Emperor Nero, he is compelled to join the Roman army. He is dispatched to "miserable, chilly, damp Britain," where "the locals are revolting - quite literally." When Atti is kidnapped by Orla, a fiery young Celt anxious to establish herself as a warrior, things go even worse. After nearly surviving a bog death, Atti utilizes his Roman knowledge to assist Orla in rescuing her grandmother, who has been captured by a rival tribe. Meanwhile, an enraged Nero is hell-bent on putting down the revolt headed by Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni. When Atti rejoins his Roman men, he discovers they are preparing for the Battle of Watling Street, a historic showdown with the Celts. As the two new allies find themselves lined up on opposite sides of the battlefield, Atti's brains could rescue the day, but they could also spell disaster for Orla.
