Hideo Suzuki is a 35-year-old assistant mangaka whose life seems to be stuck in his tiring but low-paying job, unfulfilled dreams, strange hallucinations, and unsatisfying relationships. He thinks of himself as a supporting character in his own life and has low self-esteem, which makes him frustrated. One day, the world as Hideo knows it is shattered by a disease that turns people into murderous maniacs whose first instinct is to attack and eat the nearest human.
