Japanese journalist Christopher travels the length and breadth of the country in pursuit of Komomo, the long-lost love of his life, whom he had abandoned years earlier on the promise that he would return to her later. Then he finds himself on an eerie island populated by whores and caftans, and it's there that he comes face to face with a malformed prostitute who informs him that his beloved Komomo has died. Afterward, he invites the woman to share her life story with him over a sip of sake. When the prostitute opens up about her life and the tragic end of Komomo, she tells a terrible and cruel story.
