For the wedding of his hero— his grandfather, local surf legend Johnny Tsunami— Johnny Kapahala, a Vermont adolescent snowboarding champion, goes to Oahu, Hawaii. When Johnny arrives, he meets his new family, including "Uncle Chris," the 12-year-old step-grandson. Chris is primarily interested in joining a teen bully's mountain boarding team. Opened by Johnny's granddad and his new wife, their business quickly becomes a target of a competing shop owner.
