When Margaret Rockland returns to her childhood neighborhood in Washington, DC for a reunion, she is as depressed as the ubiquitous Christmas carols are cheerful. Her wild childhood pals have settled into respectable family life. To make matters worse, her ex-boyfriend is engaged to the most aristocratic blonde on the East Coast. Margaret reacts by going on a drinking and drug binge. She roams the suburban no man's land with two other souls and ends up in an incomparable adventure filled with kidnapping, extortion, misunderstandings, and clumsy violence.
