A seagull is caught by the black tide of a sinking oil ship. She manages to fly inland and falls down in a garden where a cat is waiting for her. Moribund, she asks the cat to keep three promises: that when she lays her egg, he won't eat it, that he'll take care of it until it hatches, and that he'll teach the baby how to fly.
