Malena
A bike and a first glimpse of Malèna occurs to 12-year-old Renato on the day in 1940 that Italy officially enters the war effort. This Sicilian hamlet where she lives with her husband, Nico, is a lovely, silent stranger. He leaves her to the lusty eyes of the men and the cutting tongues of the ladies while he fights in the battle. Renato grows up seeing Malèna struggle and prove her mettle over the following few years as he matures into a man. For him, he sees Nico's death, his father's sadness, her destitution and her hunt for job, and the final humiliations she suffers because of slander. Is Malèna's bravery enough to inspire Renato to stand up to her?
