A long time ago, during the Iron Age, a looming shadow hovered over a small settlement. A mythical beast called the Minotaur, who lives beneath a vast palace, has been stealing village lads from their families for decades and delivering them as sacrifices to him. Following the death of his love in a previous sacrifice, Theo is persuaded that the beast does not exist and that his love is still held captive as a slave within the castle. His father Cyrnan, the village's chief, tries to persuade Theo not to leave, but Theo is driven by blind hatred and refuses to listen. He devises a scheme and is pulled screaming from his home with the other youths who have also devised plans.
