Richard Pimentel joins the Army and goes to Vietnam after a fight with one of his heroes dashes his dreams of going to college to study public speaking and become a public speaker. Richard loses most of his hearing while he is in the army. Richard made new friends, including a man with cerebral palsy and a war veteran who was an alcoholic. Richard found that he had a talent for motivating people and became an advocate for people with disabilities.
