In the nineteenth century, the Qing Dynasty's Prince Regent orders the execution of the entire Meng clan. The leader swears before his beheading that his family will avenge this travesty of justice. A five-year-old Meng boy named Erkui bravely sings an aria as he awaits his death. Master Yu, an opera star, and his seven-year-old pupil Guan Yilong are both moved by the power and purity of his voice. Master Yu saves the boy, and the two orphans are united as brothers.
