Following a long-standing fascination with the church and years of experience dealing with unusual, distasteful, and unexpected human behavior, the beguilingly unpretentious Theroux is not deterred when his request to see the Church's headquarters is denied. Taking inspiration from the Church's use of filmmaking techniques and with the assistance of ex-members of the organization, Theroux employs actors to reenact various occurrences that people claim they witnessed while members in an attempt to gain a better understanding of how the organization operates. Unexpectedly, it emerges that the Church is also producing a film about Louis Theroux, which is quite weird.
