When Will and Dawn learned that the employment he was banking on to save their financial future had vanished in the midst of a market meltdown, they were left devastated. Taking the route back to their city, they pick up hitchhikers Lee and Cheryl in a random act of kindness while driving. Late at night, they come dangerously close to colliding with an elderly guy who is stumbling along the snowy highway, severely hypothermic and ice-cold. While searching for his ID, they come across a stack of cash, a hand-drawn map with GPS information, and a solitary gold coin hidden under his coat.. Weak-willed Will and Dawn agree to Lee's plan to report him to the police as a John Doe and collect the money. There are four people who are desperate to find buried gold so that they can save their bleak financial situation.
