Seven Algerian monks were kidnapped and killed in 1996. A Trappist monk community lives in Tibhirine, Algeria, beside a predominantly Muslim population. When the Algerian army clashes with Muslim Jihadi terrorists, they are forced to evacuate the monastery and abandon the people they served. After much soul-searching and deliberation, the monks decide to stay and help their neighbors repel the army and militants.
