Once upon a time, a pirate known as the Great Gold Pirate Woonan amassed about one-third of the world's gold. Over the course of a few years, the pirate's existence faded, and a tale emerged that he disappeared with his gold to a secluded island, which pirates continue to look for. On board the Going Merry, Luffy and his crew, who are hungry and irresponsible, are stolen of their loot. In an effort to retrieve it, they sink the escape ship, which is piloted by a little kid named Tobio who is a member of El Drago's pirate gang. El Drago's desire for gold has led him to search for Woonan's island, and thanks to Woonan's treasure map, he locates it. During this period, Luffy's crew has been separated, and despite their individual difficulties, they must find a method to prevent El Drago from gaining Woonan's money.
