Will Chaney, a television presenter, is as adorable as they come, and he is a loving and dedicated father to his pre-teen son Benjamin 'Ben'. Unfortunately, the only good thing that came out of Will's marriage was the rather bashful and bewildered son. According to the terms of the divorce, Will picks up Ben at the Denver airport at the beginning of each major school holiday and drops him off again at the end of each major school holiday. There, Will meets divorcée Jane, who picks up and drops off her kid in the same manner as Will. Both good, involuntary part-time parents refrain from dating in order to save their children from experiencing another devastating break-up.
