Pirate's Passage is a novel set in 1952 Grey Rocks, a centuries-old hamlet that was famed 250 years ago as a pirates' haven. It tells the narrative of 12-year-old Jim, who grows up in Grey Rocks. In the wake of his father's death and having to deal with schoolyard bullies on a daily basis, Jim manages to keep on, encouraged by his hopeful imagination and inspired by his sense of adventure, despite his difficulties. Jim's life is completely transformed by the unexpected arrival of Captain Johnson, whose little yacht has been pushed off course by a storm. With Jim's help, the Captain rapidly establishes himself as a mentor and friend, teaching him invaluable lessons in self-reliance and determination. Soon after, Jim develops a liberated sense of self-assurance that touches the Captain so deeply that the Captain permits Jim to see signs that the Captain may be more than he appears to be at first.
