Henry and Nicky are small-town friends from blue-collar families who have only a few months before they ship off to World War II. Henry begins romancing newcomer Caddie Winger, mistaking her for a wealthy woman. Nicky, who is mischievous and irresponsible, causes trouble, forcing the other two to become involved and putting their relationship, as well as the boys' friendship, to the test.
