Another Morley child has vanished while walking home from school after nine years. Detective Chief Superintendent Maurice Jobson is reminded of the 1974 disappearance of Clare Kemplay, who was discovered dead, and the following arrest of local lad Michael Myshkin. Unwittingly creating a spark for Jobson to start righting some wrongs, washed-up local solicitor John Piggott becomes convinced of Myshkin's innocence and begins to fight on his behalf.
