Allan Topher, an inventor at Kinetech Labs, creates a robot for search and rescue, but when he learns that it will be utilized for military objectives, he programs the robot to flee. The robot manages to flee, but not without suffering damage. Henry Keller,12, discovers it and heals it, giving it the name Cody. Henry and Cody form a connection because the robot has no memory of its past. Kinetech and the inventor eventually track down Cody and return him to the lab. Because the inventor feels bad about abducting Cody, he gives the robot back to Henry. In the process, the inventor meets Henry's mother, Joanna, and they fall in love. Kinetech demands the robot be returned, so the inventor and Joanna are kidnapped. To save them and bring down Kinetech, Henry and Cody set off on a mission.
