Christopher Cross, a cashier and part-time starving artist, is head over heels in love with the lovely Kitty March. Kitty plays along, but her true motivation is Johnny, a two-bit thief. When Kitty and Dan learn that art dealers are interested in Chris' work, they convince him to give them credit for the paintings.
