Solarbabies
An orphanage controlled by tyrannical authorities of a future Earth in which most water has been removed from the planet is home to a group of children, usually teens, who are living in a future Earth in which most water has been removed from the planet. They are quite skilled at playing a hockey-based game on roller skates, and they are in the group in question. It has given them a sense of togetherness that transcends the attempts by the authorities to bring them under control. When they come across an orb of extraordinary power, they discover that it has unexpected consequences on them. They manage to escape from the orphanage (on skates) and attempt to cross the wasteland in quest of a safe haven while the stormtroopers hunt for them and the orb.
