Australian girl Heidi is forced to flee her home after she is caught red-handed with her mother's boyfriend. She has no choice but to abandon her family and friends. Heidi is forced to settle in Jindabyne, a tourist destination because she has few other options. In the aftermath of meeting Joe in a pub, she pursues a connection with him while still attempting to establish what she perceives to be an essentially regular home life. Getting a job and finding a place to live are tiny victories for Heidi, but her relationship with Joe has more than its fair share of difficulties to overcome.
