The Black Sleep
After saving a former student from the death penalty after being wrongfully convicted of murder in the late 1800s, an accomplished British brain surgeon transports him to an ancient monastery in the countryside. He persuades his student to assist him in mapping the functioning of the various areas of the human brain using living people who are under a dreadful animation-suspending drug known as "black sleep." As a result of their investigation, they learn that most of the individuals have survived and are being confined in a dungeon-like cellar in varying states of insanity.
