The Color of Money

"Fast Eddie" Felson, a former pool hustler, seeks to return to the game by adopting a pupil. He approaches the gifted but inexperienced Vincent Lauria with a partnership proposal. Eddie teaches Vincent the methods of scamming as they visit pool rooms, but he soon becomes bored with Vincent's flamboyant behavior, leading to a disagreement and a breakup. Eddie resumes playing and encounters Vincent as a rival shortly thereafter.
