The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Haruhi Suzumiya, leader of the SOS Brigade, declares in mid-December that the Brigade will celebrate Christmas with Japanese hotpot in their clubroom. The brigade members Kyon, Yuki Nagato, Mikuru Asahina, and Itsuki Koizumi begin preparations for the party, including the costumes and decorations. Several days later, though, Kyon arrives at school to discover that Haruhi has vanished. Not only that, but Mikuru claims she has never met Kyon before, Koizumi is also AWOL, and Yuki is the lone member of the literature club. Haruhi Suzumiya and the SOS Brigade do not appear to have ever been. Kyon is the only person in the school who has ever heard of her.
