Cassie Grant (Christina Ricci) is a young American woman who is exploring the streets of England. Cassie is hit by a car on her way to Ashby Wake. Kerry Fox's character Marion Kirkman (the motorist) instantly dials 911 to request an ambulance. The doctor at the local hospital concludes that Cassie has just minor wounds and no concussion, but that the accident has robbed her of her memories. In addition to knowing her name, she has no idea where she came from, who her family is, or why she's in England.
