The Handmaiden
During the Japanese occupation of 1930s Korea, a young woman is employed as a handmaiden for a Japanese heiress who lives in seclusion on a big country estate with her tyrannical uncle. However, the maid is a pickpocket recruited by a con artist posing as a Japanese count to assist him woo the heiress into eloping with him, robbing her of her inheritance, and locking her away in a mental institution. The scheme appears to be proceeding as intended until the women experience unanticipated feelings.
