Despite his reservations, Australian lawyer David Burton accepts the challenge of defending an indigenous clan accused of murdering one of their own. As far as he can tell, the defendants deny any connection to a particular tribe. At some point in the story, Burton begins to realize that his personal association with aborigines and their prophecies could put him in danger.
