In this elaborately placed seafaring adventure, Rolfe is a Viking leader with the cunning and unscrupulous mind of a pirate. Rolfe informs others seafarers of "The Mommy of Voices," a monstrous bell constructed from gold and as tall as three men, yet he includes sufficient incorrect information to throw them off the proper trail. Nonetheless, Aly Mansuh, the leader of a group of enthusiastic Moors, sees through Rolfe's tale, and quickly both are in a breakneck race to be the very first to record the precious bell.
