Even though it's been years since his unit was ambushed during the Gulf War, Major Ben Marco still has awful dreams about the experience. He starts to have second thoughts about his fellow squad member Sergeant Raymond Shaw, who is now running for vice president of the United States. As Marco's skepticism develops, Shaw's political influence expands, and Marco discovers a mystery implant implanted in his back, he begins to piece together the events that led up to his current predicament.
