There are generations of Alma's family making high-quality olive oil in the Baix Maestrat district of Castellón, Spain. Traditional chicken farming methods are no longer viable in today's market, thus the family has turned to mass-producing poultry. Alma's granddad hasn't spoken for a long time. He's depressed and unable to eat because of it. Alma's grandfather knows his two sons, Alma's father and her uncle, are growing angry with him. A thousand-year-old olive tree that her family had to uproot and sell in order to settle some bills is what he's been mourning. (An unfortunate reality in Castellón right now.) Because she can't face the thought of her grandfather passing away without seeing this horrible wrong rectified, Alma sets off on a crazy quest to find the tree and bring it back to the family orchard so that her grandfather can rest in peace.
