The year is 1967 in Milan, Italy. As a child of Calabrian descent, Santo Russo travels north with his parents and younger brother in search of better living conditions. Santo winds up in prison as a result of an odd misunderstanding and his father's contempt. While there, he receives a "real education." In 1978, he and his associates Slim and Mario begin a 15-year criminal career that includes robberies, kidnappings, murders, and heroin smuggling. They are successful and merciless in their pursuit of illegal gain.
