Roger Santet is a convicted killer who was released from prison by the Sicilian family led by Vittorio Manalese, who is elderly. They plot to steal a significant quantity of gems from a Rome exhibition. During the preparations for the robbery, the mobster's American pal Tony Nicosia advises hijacking the delivery plane en route to New York in order to obtain the rocks. Inspector Le Goff is employing every possible resource to foil their schemes. Santet is trapped by the mob due to his affair with Manalese's daughter-in-law, despite the fact that the robbery itself is successful.
