The Strange Love of Martha Ivers

As a result of her actions, little Martha accidentally kills her nasty, dictatorial aunt. Martha lies to the police, and Walter, who witnessed the incident, corroborates the girl's account of what happened that night. The couple eventually married out of convenience; Walter, the meek Walter, is genuinely in love with Martha, and Martha believes that her aunt's death is no longer a mystery because she has married the only witness to the death. Nevertheless, when Martha's childhood friend Sam shows up, she realizes that her dark past may not be kept hidden for much longer than she would like.
