Nick Ryan's 2012 documentary film The Summit is about the 2008 K2 disaster. It combines documentary footage with dramatized recreations of the events surrounding the K2 disaster in 2008. Eleven climbers died on the way to and from the summit in a short period of time, resulting in one of the worst catastrophes in climbing history. Fredrik Sträng, a Swedish mountaineer, shot the majority of the documentary footage. Sträng had planned to make a documentary, but he was unable to complete it due to his inability to reach the summit. Because all of the climbers had different stories about what happened, the footage was still useful in determining what really happened.
