The film examines how African spirituality has influenced popular culture in America. Since their landing on the coasts of North America, the ancient African gods have taken on new shapes. Their energy is now expressed through turntable mastery, improvisational abilities, and mind-blowing collages, performances, and rituals. The film upends conventional and stereotypical views on race, religion, and rationality. Through interviews with musicians, writers and artists, healers, gumbo cooks, and Mississippi Blues men, the documentary paints a picture of a culture that has always benefited from a unique fusion of ethnic elements to create its cultural richness, attractiveness, and vitality.
