In 1798, a wild youngster was found near Aveyron, France. He is committed to an asylum due to his mental illness. Deaf-mute specialist Jean Itard believes the youngster has normal mental potential, but his growth has been hampered by lack of social contact. He takes the boy home, names him Victor, and begins a long educational journey with him.
