Encomium to Larry Hart (1895-1943), as seen through the fictional eyes of his songwriting collaborator, Richard Rodgers (1902-1979): from their initial encounter, through their lean years and breakthrough, to their Broadway, London, and Hollywood achievements. We see the fruits of Hart and Rodgers' collaboration-lavishly staged pieces from their plays, excursions to nightclubs by characters, and impromptu performances at parties. Additionally, we observe Larry's erratic behavior, his failed love with Peggy McNeil, his sadness, and Richard's successful courtship of Dorothy Feiner.
