Aladdin

Based on the film that was released in1992, Walt Disney Television produced an animated television series called Aladdin that ran from 1994 to1995. The series was broadcast on ABC. The animation was completed in the Slightly Offbeat Productions Studios in Penrose, which is located in the city of Auckland in New Zealand. The series followed up where the direct-to-video sequel The Return of Jafar left off, with Aladdin now living in the palace and engaged to the stunning and headstrong Princess Jasmine. This came on the heels of the release of the direct-to-video sequel The Return of Jafar. Together, "Al" and Jasmine put themselves in harm's way by venturing into a dangerous environment filled with various villains. Help arrived in the form of the monkey sidekick Abu, the animated magic carpet, the fast-talking, shape-shifting Genie, and the sarcastic, grumbling parrot Iago, who was once Jafar's pet but is now an antihero. After being eradicated in the second movie, Jafar makes a brief appearance in the sole episode of the series that features him. This episode also acts as a crossover with Hercules: The Animated Series. With the noteworthy exception of Dan Castellaneta, who took over for Robin Williams in the character of the Genie, a number of the film's performers also performed the voices of their TV equivalents in the animated series. This spinoff series, in contrast to the spinoff series based on The Little Mermaid, does not include any musical numbers. At its inception, the show was broadcast simultaneously on the block known as The Disney Afternoon (which was syndicated) and on CBS during the Saturday morning hours. In the late 1990s, Disney Channel continued to air episodes of the series until their pre-teen roster forced it out of rotation. After that, the show aired on Toon Disney, however it has been taken off the channel since then.
